1sts and 103rds

This is Karie. She's a teacher of a classroom of 28(?) wild and wooly 5th graders, a kind and beautiful "girl" (I get to call you that 'cause you are more than 20 years younger than I), great friend and wife and to add to this list, a triathlete.

She swam with a coach a few times a week at NINE O'CLOCK at night so that she could participate in this event. That's just crazy. But when you want something as badly as she wanted to do this. You just do it. I am so proud of her! Go HERE if you want to read a great race report!

My race went, well-just OK. I forget that this time of year it's difficult to breathe and am in denial that I need to use an inhaler every once in awhile. For anyone with EIA, you know how it feels mid-run when you swear there is someone sitting on your chest, right? That's how I felt as my competition passed me at the half-mile point during the run. First woman in my AG was Diane with a 1:14 (she swims an 11:00 825 and is solid on the bike and run also). Surprise second place was my daughter's pediatrician. It was her first triathlon also, and she ate up the competition. Yeah Mary! Third went to a lady I beat last March when I had considerable more running mileage under my belt and 4th went to my friend Margi. They were all under 1:20. My time was not my slowest, but I can certainly look to knocking off some bike and run time with the 1:23 I ended up with.
Inhaler next time? Yeah-probably.



That and possibly a new bike.

In other firsts of the day, my (and Karie's too) massage therapist ran her first half-marathon in a very comfortable 2:24.
Congratulations Jennifer! She did the work and did well!

We celebrated by meeting later for an early dinner and a draft or two!



All in all it was a great Sunday!
