In a nutshell:
1.)
Shaken baby syndrome can cause traumatic brain injury, retardation and paralysis, not to mention a myriad of other health related conditions.
Happens all the time. We see the results in Special Education classes everywhere.
Recently a child passed away from possible flu complications. He was severely retarded, in a wheel-chair,
and was in a foster care situation as his condition was the result of being shaken as an infant by one or both "parents".
The "parents" of the child are now looking to sue or press charges against the foster family.
2.) I am one of those people who have never run up credit card interest and pay it off ahead of time. I am being forced to use my
card more and more because of bad check writers and check fraud. So now I will be penalized by VISA by adding a "service charge"
to my card 'cause I refuse to allow myself to go into debt.
And people wonder why I run, bike and swim a lot.
Damn.

What? What is the service charge for? I'm confused.
I wish I was more like you, but I was raised by shop-a-holics, and struggle to learn to live within my means. I had it down for a while, then the whole school thing blew up and I had to pay out-of-state tuition last semester... now back in debt. bastards.
I use my AMEX gold card for everyday stuff, pay it off at end of month, no interest, and get rewards like gift cards to Einstein's Bagels and PF Chang's. It's great because I know I have to pay it off at the end of the month, so don't go crazy spending, but alternately, never have to worry about overdrafting.
You have now lost all respect for me... I'm sure ;)
1) horrible.
2) credit cards are now going to charge interest the moment you make the transaction, not at the end of the billing period.
Meaning that if right now you have zero balance & charge $100 to your credit card for clothing or gas or food, you can send in a $100 payment next week or before your bill arrives and only pay $100. When this takes effect you will have to pay interest on the $100 from the day it was charged.
They beg people to use their money and then come back to bite them when they do. And those of us who pay on time are also penalized because of those who don't pay. Sort of like people taking government bailouts or free governmental help. Guess who really pays for that stuff??
#2 Now I am trying to figure this out. They want us, who pay off our credit cards every month, to tear up said cards to save money so now they cannot charge the vendor the fee every time we use the credit cards that we will not be using anymore. Do I get that right? That is crazy!!! Oh well, no more credit cards for us!
BTW-I think this does not start until Feb. 2010
Screw VISA - go to your credit union and see if they have a card. Credit Unions rule - VISA sucks. I'm cancelling cards left and right as they impose these ridiculous fees. They made all their money reaming the poor (giving them credit they couldn't afford and then charging them 30% interest) and now the poor are minus money and not available to be reamed so they are going after you and me. bleh.
